Yes, I'll admit it. I trust Dave Portnoy's pizza reviews - it's to the point where when I conduct business travel, I'll only stop at places he rates at an 8 or higher. Am I becoming a pizza snob in my old age? Probably. I don't care. I told someone that I've lived in various cities in CA most of my life, and tried plenty of pies there. Taking chains out of the equation (which are mostly inedible), I believe some of the worst NY pizza (which includes New Haven, CT) would rank amongst the best in California. My continued pilgrimage to experience pizza excellence this particular trip brought me to Johnny's in Mt. Vernon and Di Fara deep in Brooklyn (Midwood neighborhood). I tried two slices - one regular and one square. The square one (maybe a grandma slice?) featured a thicker crust with more "heft", while the thinner crust had an extra crunchy crust. Zero flop on both. Pristine undercarriage. This place is a bit unique in that it features pieces of ripped basil, which adds a certain subtle boost of flavor. I'm normally a pepperoni or sausage guy. However, I wanted to have this one naked - no toppings, just cheese. This is the only true test of a pizza's base level of quality. Let me state unequivocally. Johnny's was extremely tasty, but Di Fara was on another level of unf---king-believableness. Nirvana. Manna from heaven. Pure bliss. All of it. You need to come here. You should be ashamed of yourself, because you SHOULD'VE been here already. Dave gave this a 9.4 - I'm throwing down a 9.8. Enjoy.

I've been to Di Fara so many times, so I feel it's important to post about it. The last time I went is when Dom (RIP) was grabbing pies out with his bare hands. Everytime I went there was over a hour wait but I did not care. I lived in Williamsburg so the train ride took forever but I did not care. Absolutely the best pizza I've had in my life. Anytime that I'm in NYC, I make the trek down to Ave J for a slice.

Absolutely lived up to the hype. Every accolade is well deserved. Easily one of the best, if not the best slice I have ever had. Amazing crisp crust that stands straight out at attention without being too tough. Incredible snap when you bite into it. Great crust around the edge. You can hear how awesome it is from across the table. The sauce and cheese are delicious and in the proper proportion. Very fun old-school vibe. Just a great outing. Cannot wait to go back. I don't care how long the subway ride is.

Now THIS is what you call a good slice. I always see Di Fara come up when talking best slices in NYC and it did not disappoint. The place looks like it's been there forever, which is pretty much has lol. We were waiting for a plain slice but it was still in the over so we got two pepperoni slices for the same price (who am I to complain about free pepperoni?!). The slice was perfect, the dough was SO SO good, the pepperoni delicious. They sprinkle what looks like pecorino Romano and fresh basil on the pizza. 10/10. Definitely one of the best in NYC and worth the trip.

This is about as good as pizza is gona get. Thin and crispy, get a crunch with each bite. The ratio of cheese, sauce and dough are perfectly balance like a pizza should be. The crust has even more crunch. The flavor of the sauce is so amazing, a slightly sweet and good tang to it. I love when pizza spots put 2 cheeses, mozzarella and parmesan together. Gives it so much more flavor. And to finish it off you get shredded basil. I got the cheese and my friend got pepperoni. He loved his as well. The shop is small, not really much room to eat inside so we ate outside which was cool with me. Nice area. Friendly staff. Busy because it's so popular. An absolute must try when you come to New York.

Really interesting pizza! Very saucy. Super crunchy crust. Maybe the crunchiest crust I've ever had. $5 for a slice which is a bit steep compared to some other places. Would recommend, but definitely different than what I expected! Some tables to sit at inside. Nice lady working at the front.
